FOUR DECADES IN THE MAKING

Our Journey
in gold.

Every great craft takes time to build. This is ours.

1970's

Apprenticeship Begins

Paul Goldstraw begins a formal goldsmithing apprenticeship — learning the craft the traditional way, under Robert Wallace a master goldsmith working at Quayside Jewellers in St. Ives. The skills he learned here will form the foundation of everything that follows: precision, patience, and an uncompromising standard of finish.

Goldstraw Goldsmiths Opens

Paul opens a small concession within Barretts Department Store owned by the Huckle family in St. Neots, giving Paul his first opportunity to start the Goldstraw journey.

1990's

A Reputation Takes Root

Word spreads quietly — the way the best things always do. Goldstraw Goldsmiths becomes the destination of choice for engagement rings, wedding bands and repairs across Cambridgeshire. Paul joins the National Association of Jewellers, cementing the business’ commitment to professional standards and ethical trading.

The First Move

Growing demand leads to a significant investment in the on-site workshop Paul & his team move to 3 Cross Keys Mews — new equipment, greater capability, but the same hands-on approach. Paul choses his team carefully, selecting only people who share Paul’s values: meticulous, honest, and genuinely passionate about what they do.

2007

Family

A new chapter begins as Connie Goldstraw joins her father, Paul. With a background in upper management at international companies, she brings fresh expertise to the family business – playing a key role in shaping the Goldstraws we know today.

The Big Move

The next chapter calls for more space. Paul, Connie and the team move to 14 The High Street – a larger workshop, greater capability, and a flagship presence on the high street, all underpinned by the same hands-on approach that’s defined Goldstraws from day one.

Today

Still Here. Still Family.

More than forty years on, Goldstraw Goldsmiths remains exactly what it was on the day it opened: a family business, in the same community, doing the same thing with the same care. The workshop is still on-site. Every repair, commission and valuation is handled personally — and every customer leaves knowing their jewellery was treated as well as they were.

NOW

What we stand for

The principles that

never changed.

01

Craft

We believe in doing things properly — with the right tools, the right training, and the patience that fine work demands. Every commission that leaves our workshop has been made by hand, on-site, by someone who has spent years learning how to do it well. There are no shortcuts here.

02

Family

We are a family business in the truest sense. Not just in structure, but in spirit. We look after our customers the way we would look after people we know personally — with honesty, consistency, and a genuine interest in getting it right. Many of our customers have been coming to us for decades. Some have sent their children. That trust is not taken lightly.

03

Honesty

We will always tell you the truth — about what something costs, how long it will take, and whether it is the right choice for you. We would rather give you honest advice and have you come back than make a sale and lose your trust. It is a simple philosophy, and it has served us well for over forty years.

“If it carries our name, it carries our promise — to every customer, every time.”
