We get asked the same questions a lot — and that is completely understandable. Jewellery is personal, sometimes precious, and often tied to moments that matter. Below are honest answers to the things people ask us most.
If your question is not here, just get in touch — we are always happy to help.
A bespoke commission is a piece of jewellery made entirely to your specification — designed from scratch based on what you want, not something taken from a catalogue. You tell us what you have in mind (even a rough idea is enough), and we design, quote and then craft it by hand in our on-site workshop.
It is the most personal way to own jewellery.
Every piece is different, so pricing depends on the metal, any stones involved, the complexity of the design, and the time required. We always provide a full written quote before any work begins — no surprises.
As a rough guide, bespoke commissions typically start from around £300 for simple silver pieces, and some remodelling rising depending on gold, platinum and stone choices. We are happy to try and work within a budget — just let us know what you are working with.
Most commissions take between 3–6 weeks from the point of approval, depending on complexity and our current workload. If you have a specific date in mind (a birthday, proposal, wedding), let us know early and we will do our best to accommodate it.
For engagement rings and wedding bands especially, we recommend coming to us at least 8–10 weeks before the date you need the piece.
Yes — this is actually one of our most popular services. Many customers bring us inherited jewellery, old rings, or stones they love but no longer wear, and we redesign them into something new. It is a wonderful way to give new life to something sentimental.
We will always assess the condition and suitability of existing materials before committing to a design, and we will be honest if something cannot be reused safely.
Absolutely — that is what we are here for. Many of our best commissions start with nothing more than “I want something simple and elegant” or a screenshot from Pinterest. Come in for a chat, tell us about the person it is for, what they like, and how they live — and we will take it from there.
We offer a comprehensive jewellery repair service including ring sizing, stone re-setting, claw re-tipping, chain soldering, clasp replacement, shank repairs and general restoration. If you are unsure whether we can help with something specific, just bring it in — we will take a look and give you an honest assessment.
Simple repairs such as ring sizing or chain soldering are typically ready within 1-2 weeks. More involved work — stone re-setting, shank replacement, or restoration of heavily worn pieces may take longer. We will always give you an estimated timeframe when you drop the item in.
All repairs are carried out on-site in our own workshop by our own goldsmiths. Your jewellery stays with us — we do not use third-party workshops or send items away. This is something we feel strongly about, both for security and quality control.
Yes, as long as it’s precious metal – we can increase the size or decrease the size of rings.
We provide insurance valuations for fine jewellery and precious metals. An insurance valuation gives you an accurate replacement value for your piece, which your insurer needs to cover it properly. We can also provide valuations for probate purposes and general curiosity — just ask.
Probate is priced per item, Insurance is priced at £50 + 1% of the total valuation – we will always confirm the fee before you leave anything with us. We will not charge you for taking a quick look and advising whether a formal valuation is worthwhile.
Yes. We purchase all precious metals. Prices are based on current market rates and the weight and purity of the metal. Bring items in and we will assess them and make you an offer — with no pressure to accept.
